This book represents a distinguished analytical shift that takes the field of comparative politics out of the futile debate over state independence and efficiency; as the approach focuses on the forces, networks, and social movements that do not align here with the concept of civil society. The approach presented by the author of the book is characterized by a broad understanding of many regions of the Third World, and it smoothly transitions between several levels to analyze the nature of the state; international, local, regional, and individual psychological levels. The book also represents a comprehensive review of the modern field of comparative politics through its presentation of the stages of development of its approach. This approach is rich in potential; as it has not yet been sufficiently tested on Arab societies, despite its strong suitability for their conditions. Based on this, a complete research agenda can be built using Joel Mjadal's approach to help understand many aspects of Arab society that prevailing approaches have failed to comprehend and deconstruct. Therefore, it was necessary to contribute by translating this book into Arabic. The author of the book is one of the most prominent Western academics in the fields of comparative politics and international studies; since 1974 until today, he has published more than thirty research papers and fifteen books across the fields of development, foreign policy, Jewish studies, and post-colonial studies. The majority of his studies focus on the relationship between the state and society.
