Word of the back cover of the history term: And now I place in the hands of the reader my message in the history term, seeking to serve my language and my country, and trying to open a new door for Arab history students through which they can penetrate its mysteries and reach an understanding of the modern scientific spirit that is manifested in the writings of Western scholars today. For any issue in our history that our historians still stumble over blindly, and any aspect of the lives of the ancients in past eras that they completely ignore. And it is enough for us to mention that most of our historians today claim that writing history is nothing more than narrating stories and mastering the rules of language; in their view, if you excel in composition and understand some texts, then you are prepared to write history. These people have overlooked that history is also a science that, like other sciences such as medicine, engineering, jurisprudence, and others, requires its practitioner to develop a purely scientific upbringing, trained in the technical conditions that each science demands, as we have outlined in the depths of this book. Perhaps I am the first to attempt to blend what our ancient scholars have reached with what Western scholars today have achieved in this field, and my purpose in that — and praise be to God — is to serve my country in its blessed renaissance.
