And I know that I have written in these pages only one of two matters, a matter I witnessed with my own eyes or a matter I heard from a trustworthy man. And I bear witness to the Lord (El), that I did not intend with this book any glory or honor, but rather to show my testimony on a generation of the people of Israel, whom God chose and saved by a miracle from their enemy, then became angry with them and destroyed them in that barren wilderness, after they endured the hardship of travel and the bitterness of wandering. This is a book I do not know who will read, so whoever you are, I hope you will remember the author of these pages with mercy and pray for his forgiveness.
