The eternal husband

A man from the refined society in the capital, one day arrives in a city in the provinces, to flirt with an elderly limited female employee, so he does not find difficulty in seducing her... and the seduced man returns to the capital and the woman dies, and only the seducer and the husband remain. And the husband learns what happened between the man and his wife when he comes across messages sent by the deceased wife... What Dostoevsky depicted in this novel is the confrontation between the two persons, the husband and the lover... a confrontation between two types of men: an eternal husband, living with a woman, and a man who seduces women but does not live with a woman... rather he is solitary and isolated... as for the woman, neither of them owns her. And this is the human circumstance we see in all of them. Here is the seducer feeling compassion towards the "eternal husband" mixed with contempt and he says about him: such a person is born and grows up only to marry and become a continuation of his wife. But Dostoevsky makes the lives of the two intersect, as if there is some kind of magnetism bringing them closer, until the husband one day takes his rival to his new fiancée... and here we see the seducer as if driven by a devil, seducing the girl... It is a story that describes a strange typical situation from those human situations that Dostoevsky portrays, aiming to present a model that makes us understand the depths of the human soul.
