Red Fuful Seeds
Known as Juz Fuful Al-Ahmar, it is one of the tropical seeds famous for centuries in Southeast Asia and India in herbal science. The plant is known in Arab markets by various names such as Fuful Katsho and is called in English betel nut or areca nut. It grows on the tropical Areca palm, and the fruits are harvested after the shell turns red, then dried to obtain the highest quality of alkaloids and flavonoids.
The value of Fuful in herbal medicine is due to the alkaloid Arecoline and the rich system of tannins, phenols, and flavonoids with antioxidant effects. The mature fruit also contains proteins, carbohydrates, and important elements for body health such as iron and manganese.
Benefits of Fuful Herb
The benefits depend on the dose, preparation method, and overuse or improper use may cause harm instead of benefits. Potential benefits of Fuful include:
- Stimulating the nervous system and increasing focus thanks to the effect of Arecoline as a mild stimulant of the sympathetic system.
- Improving digestion and reducing gases; chewing Fuful after meals is an Ayurvedic tradition to stimulate saliva and digestive enzymes.
- An anthelmintic; studies have shown that Fuful extract can paralyze roundworms within one hour.
- Antioxidant properties that help reduce free radicals and protect cells.
- Regulating blood sugar and fats (preliminary animal research) indicating a reduction in glucose and cholesterol with moderate soaked doses.
- Supporting cognitive functions in animal models, enhancing short-term memory.
