(Unground) 1. From Ibn Abbas may Allah be pleased with them: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The best of your kohl is the al-ithmid, it clears the sight and makes the hair grow." Narrated by Abu Dawood (3878), Al-Nasa'i (5113), Ibn Majah (3497), and authenticated by Al-Albani in "Sahih Abu Dawood". 2. From Ibn Abbas may Allah be pleased with them: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Use al-ithmid for kohl, for it clears the sight and makes the hair grow." Narrated by Tirmidhi (1757), and authenticated by Al-Albani in "Sahih Tirmidhi". 3. From Ali ibn Abi Talib may Allah be pleased with him: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Stick to al-ithmid, for it is a hair grower, it removes impurities, and it sharpens the sight." It was narrated by Al-Tabarani in "Al-Kabir" (1/109, No. 183), and it was graded good by Al-Mundhiri, Al-Iraqi, and Ibn Hajar. See "Al-Targhib wa Al-Tarhib" (3/89) and "Fath Al-Bari" (10/157). The meaning of "it clears the sight" is: it improves vision and increases the brightness of the eye. "And it makes the hair grow" here refers to the eyelashes, which grow on the eyelids. • Ibn Al-Qayyim explained the benefit of al-ithmid: It benefits the eye, strengthens it, tightens its nerves, preserves its health, and cleanses its dirt. It is the best eye kohl. The best of it is that which has a faint glow on its edges, and its interior is smooth without any dirt.
