Product description
The Gambler by Dostoevsky ... revolves around a Russian educated professor who is not financially well-off, falls in love with an aristocratic woman who pays him no attention and humiliates him in a way that raises the reader's concern about the health or realism of the story. The events take place in France. Regarding gambling and gamblers, the protagonist believes internally that he can win a lot of money if he tries to play at the casino. The story describes the state of gamblers in the casino, explains the casino game, and the psychology of the gamblers there. It depicts a realistic picture of social relationships between the poor and the rich. The novel was written in three weeks to be delivered on the scheduled date to the publisher. The Gambler is not considered Dostoevsky's most important work, but it undoubtedly sheds light on important aspects of the author's personality himself. Dostoevsky was just like the protagonist, a gambler to the point of illness, losing huge amounts at gambling tables in Germany, France, and Switzerland... and he was unable to get rid of this vice — as he called it — for many years, until he completely stopped playing in 1871. The novel presents a serious analysis of the issue of addiction to gambling, and it was written by the novelist while he was in the height of his pathological addiction.
