Product description

Since the dawn of history, human existence has been accompanied by existential questions whose echoes still reverberate across horizons and on all levels. Although humans have made great strides in exploring the depths of the universe, uncovering the secrets of vast space, and invading neighboring galaxies, they stand helpless and humble before their own selves, which are shrouded in mystery and surrounded by complexity. This is based on what Freud suggested—that humans are the only creatures capable of saying "I am I." Humans are not driven solely by biological impulses; they are in constant urgent need to feel their humanity, worth, and competence. Animals are controlled more by their instinctual drives than anything else, and encyclopedias do not mention any animal that stands proudly when hunting its prey. Meanwhile, humans feel pride and respect when achieving some kind of accomplishment. Questions like "Who am I?", "What am I?", "What are my choices?", and "Am I responsible for them or compelled by them?" are at the core of human nature. We are in urgent need of directly addressing the human phenomenon as it is, not as we wish or want to see it. Psychological sciences in our time—what some call the age of anxiety and existential crises—must play a vital role in treating widespread disorders, preventing dangers threatening humanity, and pushing intervention programs toward the sources of strength and their development within humans. The journey of psychology—as a holistic unit before it leans toward precise specialization—was not born overnight; it began with the emergence of humanity and with the individual’s quest for his self and the feelings and emotions within it, which sometimes agree and sometimes contradict. However, it is noticeable that until recently, most of psychology’s focus was on pathological issues and vulnerabilities. Psychology is the legitimate child of philosophy, but there have been and still are attempts to uproot this science from its roots... sometimes claiming to keep pace with the development of applied sciences and to adapt the human psychological entity to measurement and experimentation... and sometimes aiming for independence toward a precise specialization. The undeniable truth is that interdisciplinary sciences are the true path for the development of any science and the grandeur of its edifice; especially since psychology is closely linked to philosophy intellectually. No building is without effort... with the ability and capacity to present creative visions and unleash human imagination to explore the secrets of the soul, sciences advance and nations rise.
