Rio is quiet in temperament but clear in outline, and that combination of calm and clarity makes it a good entry point into specialty coffee. Black berries open the cup with a dark fruit presence that is never sharp, caramel settles into the middle with a warm natural sweetness that links the two ends of the experience, and cherry arrives at the finish with a brightness that rinses the cup clean rather than leaving it heavy on the palate. The body is medium and smooth, and the movement between layers happens without abrupt jumps that might unsettle the taster. Mixed varieties grown between 1400 and 1800 meters give the cup a balance between body and brightness rather than leaning to either. The finish is clean and relatively short, which makes the cup easy to repeat. This coffee suits brewing with V60 or espresso, where its details come through clearly and give a balanced experience in either method. It sits flexibly between our drip coffee beans and espresso coffee beans.
