Pitina brings together two ends that rarely meet: frank red fruit and toasted hazelnut. Grape opens the cup with a deep natural sweetness that sets up the experience, strawberry enters with a brightness that gives the cup life and cuts the sweetness at the right moment, and hazelnut arrives at the finish to lend a warm body and a nutty character that turns the cup away from where it began. That shift from fruit to nut inside a single sip is what sets this crop apart, and makes it read as two experiences in sequence rather than one cup. Catuai grown between 1700 and 1850 meters gives a firm structure that carries both ends without either taking over. The finish is clean and even, leaving a trace of hazelnut. Hazelnut usually belongs to darker roasting rather than the bean itself; finding it here alongside clear red fruit comes from the variety and elevation, not the roast. This coffee suits brewing with V60 or espresso, where its details come through clearly and give a balanced experience in either method. One of the most distinctive of our Costa Rican coffees, seen at its best among our drip coffee beans.
