And the novel "Miserable and Humiliated" was Dostoevsky's entry into the maze of the repressed in humans, in which he expressed that unlimited submission, and the readiness to accept humiliation and disgrace, even to enjoy that humiliation and disgrace, to the point that one might think that the characters of this novel are a group of patients or madmen, and the truth is that they are what we dare not to be. Dostoevsky shows what we write in the darkness of ourselves. Every character in this novel, we may see in them a saint, or someone suffering from hysteria, a loving righteous child, or a disbeliever who does not care about the misery and suffering he causes. He aims to express the spiritual and emotional struggle that drives a person to sacrifice without hesitation. This is what we find in this strange love that both Natasya and Katya, the two rivals, carry for the reckless, light-hearted young Alyosha. How could a girl like Natasya, full of purity, warmth, and intelligence, be captivated by a young man like Alyosha, full of triviality, emptiness, hesitation, and weakness? How could Natasya, alone with her parents, loving them with an unparalleled love, throw them into misery? And this is what Dostoevsky presents to us in this novel with strong, intense expressions that reflect the confusion and contradictions of passionate love.
