Product description
Product description: This medicine is used to treat severe cystic acne (also known as nodular acne) that has not responded to other treatments (such as benzoyl peroxide or clindamycin applied to the skin or tetracycline or minocycline orally). It belongs to a class of drugs called retinoids. It works by reducing the production of facial oil (sebum). Large amounts of oil can lead to severe acne. If severe acne is left untreated, it can cause permanent scars.
Usage instructions: Take capsules whole. Do not crush them. Isotretinoin is usually taken twice daily for 15-20 weeks, or as directed by the doctor. Instructions for most forms of isotretinoin indicate it should be taken with meals. However, the FDA has indicated that Absorica can be taken with or without food. Food helps increase the absorption of this medicine into the bloodstream. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more information. Take this medicine with a full glass of water, and do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking it. The dose depends on your medical condition, weight, and response to treatment. Your severe acne may worsen during the first few days of taking this medicine, and it may take up to a month or two before you see the full benefit.
In case of recurrence of severe acne, a second treatment cycle can be started after stopping the medicine for two months. The manufacturer does not recommend long-term use of isotretinoin. Do not take more than the recommended dose due to its effects, especially on bones. Caution is advised when using this medicine in children, as they may be more sensitive to its effects, especially back/joint/muscle pain.
This medicine should not be used during pregnancy or by those who may become pregnant during treatment. If you become pregnant or think you are pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. See also the warning section. Since this medicine can be absorbed through the skin and lungs and may harm the fetus, pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should not take this medicine or breathe dust from the capsules.
Two negative pregnancy tests must be performed before starting this medicine. A monthly pregnancy test should be conducted during isotretinoin treatment. If the test is positive, you should stop taking this medicine and consult your doctor immediately.
It is unknown if this medicine passes into breast milk. However, similar medications do pass into breast milk. Breastfeeding is not recommended during this medication use. Ask your doctor when you can breastfeed after stopping treatment. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
