Umm Kulthum: From Birth to Legend (Large Edition)

In fifty astonishing literary stories, with a smooth and enchanting language, this book presents the biography of Umm Kulthum. The stories depict the features of the legend of "Kawkab al-Sharq" from when she was a child singing for the ducks in her family’s house in the village of "Tamay al-Zahaira," then a young girl entertaining the simple folk in the Delta villages, then a girl who came to Cairo surrounded by the protection of sheikhs, until she became a woman everyone tried to win her heart; strangers and close ones, Germans and Allies, the King and the Free Officers. Umm Kulthum kept the rural girl beneath her skin, despite chasing fashion and acquiring perfumes, dresses, glasses, and brooches from the finest international brands, and knowing how to set her steps since her beginnings in mud houses until reaching the palaces of kings, princes, and presidents. This book explores the feelings of "the lady" in love and motherhood, and how she managed her battles with old-time singers, her relationship with royalty, revolution, press, gossip, and snakes.
