There is no country or village in the Egyptian territory more strange than the one located on the outskirts of Giza Governorate. Do not strain yourself trying to find information about it, for it is a town outside the official records, outside all laws and knowledge. Bir Al-Dif village is a place everyone agreed to forget.. even its residents, if circumstances force you to go to Bir Al-Dif, you will find that reaching it is not easy at all. Although it is located directly on one of the branches of the Nile, it disappears behind a forest of giant trees that do not suggest the existence of an entire village behind them. Even if you somehow manage to reach it, you will find that it does not welcome strangers. The people of Bir Al-Dif are not characterized by the generosity and "shuja'a" (bravery) that rural areas are famous for. They even designated a square in the middle of the distance between their houses and the main road for buying and selling. A square not exceeding fifty meters, surrounded by a barbed wire fence and trees to prevent anyone from wandering freely in the surrounding mango gardens. It is crowded with nests that serve as shops, and in the middle, a circle of unfriendly vendors spread out on the ground. This has been the behavior of the villagers since ancient times, but they became more isolated after the famous incident that happened there more than a quarter of a century ago. This was one of the reasons for Bir Al-Dif’s unpopularity, and therefore traders rarely and in very small numbers intended to go there. But Bir Al-Dif still exists despite the frightening stories, despite the self-imposed isolation, despite everyone. Dar Al-Nashr Dar Al-Ain for Publishing Author Yahya Safwat
