I was fascinated by this small, beautiful book, and my heart was filled with joy that a new Egyptian writer had appeared and shined, and was on the verge of achieving popular success. I had read for Talal Faisal a small poetry collection before, and I also liked it, so I approached his new novel with hope that my admiration would be confirmed. What I expected happened and more; several things fascinated me in the book: the boldness in expressing true feelings no matter how unusual the expression, a deep sense of shared feelings among people despite many pretending to be unique and different from others, and the ability to convey a true image of the feelings of a large segment of Egyptian boys and youth (or should I say all of them?) towards the opposite sex, and what Egyptian traditions create of barriers preventing spontaneous expression of these feelings. Throughout all that, there was fun, lightness, and sarcasm without any bitterness, but mixed with genuine compassion for people. All this made me read the book with real eagerness for the next phrase and then the next chapter, and with a joy that did not end with the end of the book, which strengthened in me the hope that there are talented young people in Egypt today who will undoubtedly create a near cultural renaissance.
