Love above the plateau of the Pyramids

One of the most famous collections of Naguib Mahfouz's stories and the most adapted to the cinema and television screen, where five stories out of the eight that make it up have been turned into four films and a TV series. In these stories, symbolism blends with realism in an astonishing way, so that the line between reality and imagination diminishes. In each story, a complete life is depicted without the usual brevity felt in short stories, illustrating a scene from the late seventies with heavy impacts on Egyptian society due to the shift to the capitalist system, with all the economic suffering, moral decline, and a battleground of competitiveness and opportunism it brought to the middle class.
