Five meet them in Paradise

The story you will read is nothing but an guess, a wish, in some way, that people who did not feel their importance here in the worldly life, how humble they were, and how loved they were. Eidi feels himself imprisoned in a life without meaning, fixing toys in an amusement park overlooking the ocean, and spending his days in a boring routine of work, loneliness, and regret. On his eighty-third birthday, he meets his death in a tragic accident, and wakes up in the afterlife, where he discovers that paradise is not as he imagined, but it is a place where five people who were in your life meet you, to explain to you crucial matters you did not realize at the time. One after the other, these people answer Eidi’s worldly questions and clarify to him how important and meaningful his life — and every life on earth — truly is. Thus, we find ourselves immersed in a beautiful and inspiring story, a story that changes our ideas about the meaning of life, a story in which we find comfort and learn to see life’s setbacks and the injustices we think we are subjected to from a different perspective. It is a tale about the worldly life and the afterlife, “a story you will devour when you fall in love, a story you will keep by your side when you feel lost, a story you will return to again and again, because it possesses a rare magic that makes you see yourself and the world from a new perspective.” This novel is a gift to the soul, as described by writer Amy Tan. “A book with a real power that touches the souls of readers, offering them comfort and solace.” — The New York Times
