Product description

The feminist activist Nola Darwish lived a life full of events. She was raised in a Jewish Egyptian family, with a mother and father who chose to side with the issues of the Egyptian people and embraced Islam. Her father was a member of the Egyptian Communist Party and a well-known lawyer defending workers' rights. Her mother shared this life with conviction. Her father was imprisoned several times for many years, and the entire family paid a heavy price for this choice. Nola Darwish absorbed a love for the homeland and always sided with those suffering from oppression and injustice, and those who faced them with courage. After obtaining her bachelor's degree in French literature and education, she moved between jobs, working as a French language teacher. She lived in Cairo, Algiers, Prague, and Moscow, and got to know fighters from various countries. She fought in different ways and participated in political life in Egypt and in public work through civil society organizations defending women's rights. She published articles advocating for human rights in general, and women's rights in particular, and participated in founding the New Woman Foundation. It is a vibrant and inspiring biography of an Egyptian fighter against the backdrop of the major social, cultural, economic, and political changes in Egypt from the 1950s until the January 2011 revolution.
