This is not a novel about Dorothy's adventure in Oz but about her adventure to reach Oz. The road to Oz is a record of the girl's fourth visit from Kansas to the magical and imaginary world. Baum abandoned the extreme violent weather that sends her to Oz each time, in the first visit there was a tornado in the air, the second a storm at sea, and the third an earthquake deep underground. Instead of danger pushing the company forward on the journey, it was the love carried by the wanderer, accustomed to walking and wandering the world's roads.
