The most important collections of Naguib Mahfouz's stories, in the opinion of many, where he gathered fourteen stories that revolve overall around the essence of life and death, and raise many questions that occupied Mahfouz throughout his life, such as the question of existence, the absolute, and faith. An example is the story "Zabalawi," which deeply expresses the existential crisis of man, through a journey the hero lives in search of Sheikh Zabalawi, who is known for miracles and holds the cure for his suffering, until the Sheikh appears to him during his sleep without him seeing him with the eye, but he is reassured of his true nature in the end.
