The beauty of your face

An American woman of Palestinian origin struggles with faith, loss, and identity before facing face-to-face with the shooter. A unique American story told with powerful and nostalgic prose, as the beauty of your face moves in a country more divided than ever. Afaf Al-Rahman, daughter of Palestinian immigrants, is the principal of Noor Al-Din Girls School, an Islamic school in the suburbs of Chicago. One morning, the shooter attacked the school. While Afaf listens to his terrifying advance, her memories come back: the fanaticism she faced as a child, her mother’s dreams of returning to Palestine, and the destructive disappearance of her older sister that tore her family apart. However, there is still the sweetness of her father’s oud music, and the hope and community that Afaf finally found in Islam.
