Product description

Grandmother Toma's rope is a novel in which times and places intersect, and personal destinies intertwine with collective history, within a plot that combines detective, symbolic, and contemplative elements. The novel is not only a narration of mysterious events but a deep reflection on the meaning of memory, the impact of popular rituals in shaping consciousness, and how the female body in particular becomes a symbol, represented by Grandmother Toma carrying the memory of the community and its history. The novel also questions the relationship between writing and authority, between official and silenced narratives, between truth and documentation. The novel employs magical realism to evoke Toma and her rituals that precede birth and accompany death, as well as the Torah, to connect geography, memory, and myth. All of this may be reflected in the perspective of the hospital narrator, who seems with each page to be the last witness to stories of this land that have yet to be told. Author: Abdelwahab Aissawi
