Product description

The nineteenth century. The story is written by Qamour, the young Syrian girl who worked as a maid in the house of Richard Burton, the translator of One Thousand and One Nights into English. The working relationship between Qamour, Richard, and his wife leads the maid to travel and stay in London and Trieste. This travel allows Qamour to discover her voice, and she refuses to write the events of 1860 in Damascus in the way her master wants her to write them. But the book is published without the author's name. Stripping a woman of her name is the question of the novel. And Qamour resembles her city and many Arab cities that Orientalists, travelers, and consuls try to steal their heritage and identity.
