Product description
Kifah Tiba, a historical novel by the Egyptian novelist Naguib Mahfouz. First published in 1944, it is the third among his historical novels in the historical trilogy series after "The Game of Destiny" (1939) and "Radobis" (1943). It depicts the struggle of the Egyptian people to regain their freedom and expel the Hyksos invaders from their land, in a historical reflection of events paralleling the Egyptian people's struggle in the early twentieth century for liberation from British occupation and achieving independence. "... I wanted to say that just as the Egyptian people succeeded in achieving their independence in ancient times, they will also succeed in the modern era." Naguib Mahfouz blends in his novel the story of the struggle of the people of Tiba with the love story of King Ahmose. The hero, Ahmose, despite achieving victory, could not forget the image of that princess coming from the desert (the daughter of his Hyksos enemy), whose features remained engraved in his heart as the first day he saw her on the Egyptian ship. Nevertheless, he sacrifices his emotional attachment for Tiba.
