The monk of Al-Makha

Number of pages: 456. Author: Dave Eggers. Publisher: Madarek Publishing and Distribution. Year of publication: 2019. This book is not a fictional novel, but a work that reflects the events witnessed and experienced by (Mukhtar Al-Khanshali). In working on it, I spent hundreds of hours in interviews with (Mukhtar) over nearly three years. All of which I could have contributed to activating (Mukhtar's) memory or in the historical record, and I did so with the help of others who were present. The dialogue included in the work is as narrated by (Mukhtar) and others. Some names have been changed. In all cases where the dialogue took place in Yemen, most of it was likely in colloquial Arabic. I have made my best effort, with the help of (Mukhtar), to accurately translate the text of the dialogues and their tone into English.
