Product description

The material of this book was written in the last eighteen months of Wittgenstein's life. Wittgenstein was seriously preoccupied with the issue of color during the periods when he was continuously engaged in philosophy (1911 - 1919/1929 - 1951). And in a note dated January 11, 1948, Wittgenstein writes in Culture and Value: "Colors are a stimulus for philosophy." Andrew Lugg, in his 2021 book, Notes on Colors: Commentary and Interpretation, sees that Wittgenstein was more focused and interested in the subject of colors than other major philosophers. It is surprising that his notes on colors did not receive the attention they deserve, even compared to his writings— for example, on ethics, aesthetics, psychoanalysis, and others, which can be considered secondary writings relative to the main topics that preoccupied Wittgenstein in his major works: The Logical-Philosophical Treatise, Philosophical Investigations, and On Certainty. Anskum describes the book as "one of the few documents that show Wittgenstein working with a focus on a specific philosophical issue." All of the above, and more than can be accommodated here, serve as an encouragement for serious researchers in Wittgenstein's philosophy to pay attention to this work and study it seriously and thoroughly. The matter is not limited to those working in the field of philosophy; artists, painters, and those interested in colors in general can also read the book and reflect on it. It is a deep and challenging philosophical work, and this book is the second translation, after On Certainty (2020), within Ludwig Wittgenstein's project, which aims to translate a collection of Ludwig Wittgenstein's works, including: Culture and Value and Notes on Philosophy of Psychology (Volumes One and Two).
