Umm Kulthum: From Birth to Legend

In fifty amazing literary stories, with a smooth and enchanting language, this book presents us with the biography of Umm Kulthum. The stories depict the features of the legend of "Star of the East" from when she was a child singing for the ducks in her family’s house in the village of "Tamay Al-Zahaira," then a girl entertaining the simple people in the Delta villages, then a young woman who came to Cairo surrounded by the protection of sheikhs, until she became a woman everyone tried to win her heart; strangers and close ones, Germans and Allies, the King and Free Officers. Umm Kulthum kept the rural girl beneath her skin, despite chasing fashion and acquiring perfumes, dresses, glasses, and brooches from the finest international brands, and knowing how to set her steps’ rhythm from her beginnings in mud houses to reaching the palaces of kings, princes, and presidents.
