I was captivated by standing writing, at least it doesn't hurt my arm, a position that makes adrenaline flow freely. Now I thought, why did Hemingway write standing? I looked at his picture hanging on the wall, with his flowing beard like a Sufi. Oh, how amusing! Even his typewriter has the same brand mark. This is no coincidence. I looked at a poster of Bukowski, drinking wine from a bottle, with a typewriter in front of him on which he was pounding away, a scrap of paper sticking out. Amazing! It also bears the same mark. Ooh! Even Stefan Zweig and Günter Grass have the same brand of typewriter. Is it a special machine for the greats? Is this a coincidence? Is there wisdom and a path that fate draws? Oh, how amazing! They also write standing up. Perhaps writing while standing is wisdom. I thought about the writers who used the same brand of typewriter, and about the crazy ones who wrote standing up, and those who only wrote in the depths of intoxication and madness. The novel "The Inspiration of a Typewriter" presents us with a profound experiential experiment in form and substance. The storyteller and novelist Youssef Karmāh chose the architecture of the novel based on the interplay between two narrative levels: the level of storytelling about writing as a process and the relationship of the self with it, as if the cherished subject is the documentation of the writing journey from the novelist's perspective in this core experience. Then there is the level of realistic observation, which embodies a transition and rhythmic diversity through which details filled with reality are captured boldly, working to expose the present in its various levels and social and political dimensions. This interplay, in fact, characterizes the novel with strong creative cohesion. It is a worthy experience for reading and discussion, just as it offers a distant hint of an experience that can contribute to the course of Moroccan and Arab novels.
