Why the frayed 574 travels furthest

The 574 has existed since 1988 and sold in millions. Miu Miu did something nobody else managed. It took a deeply familiar shoe and made it look scarce.

Design philosophy

The fraying is intentional and carefully placed around the logo, the lace opening and the sole line. Random distressing would read as damage, but following the original design lines makes it look as though time did the work.

During inspection we noticed every frayed edge is anchored by a hidden internal seam that stops the unravelling at a fixed point, which is why the distressing never grows with washing or wear. The midsole is also cream rather than bright white, a choice that hides the natural soiling soles collect.
