University of the Rent - Cameron Wright

Li Lem and Sang Lee fight the battle of survival daily in Stung Manchi, the largest landfill in Cambodia. They earn their daily strength by collecting recyclable waste from the trash, and add concern to the difficulty of their lives with their child Nisay, who is frequently ill, and the extra expenses for medicines that do not cure him. When things get worse, Sang Lee secretly knows about the sharp woman they call "The Rent University," who comes every month to demand money, a secret that goes back to the Khmer Rouge days, and pushes waves that change everyone who passes through. "The Rent University" simply describes how reading changed life, and how anyone can "rise from the ashes" anywhere. Number of pages: 304 pages Sodra Publications
