The rooster of the Jinn of Homs (Abdul Salam bin Raghban bin Abdul Salam bin Habib Al-Kilabi) (161 AH / 778 AD – 235 AH / 849 AD) a distinguished Abbasid poet, known for his boldness and drunkenness, and was one of the knights of the word in his era, until he was considered one of the first-class poets in the Levant during the Abbasid period. He was nicknamed "The rooster of the Jinn" due to the strangeness of his name on one hand, and because his eyes were greenish — a rare trait that granted him an aura of mystery and distinction. He was born in the city of Homs in the Levant, and attributed to Salamia (near Hama) where his family’s origin traces back, but his entire life revolved around the Levant, and he never left it, nor did he seek patronage from the caliphs of Baghdad or the princes of the provinces as other poets did. His poetry was characterized by sincerity in emotion, boldness in meaning, and diversity between love poetry, pride, lamentation, satire, with a sometimes philosophical tendency, and a drunkenness that was not devoid of human depth. A poetry collection was published for him, gathering his most beautiful poems and verses. He died in his hometown of Homs in 235 AH / 849 AD, leaving a special literary impact that made him one of the most controversial poetic figures in our Arab heritage.
