Book title: Writing Khalil Hawi's Poetic Work: A Symbolic Approach Author: Antoine Abu Zeid Publisher: Khutut wa Zilal Category: Novel Number of pages: 300 About the book: The death of poet Khalil Hawi was for me, on the day the Israeli enemy entered Beirut on June 9, 1982, only a doubled incentive to deepen the questioning about the nature of critical approaches and their ability to explore the depths of the moral and formal world in Hawi's poetry, without deriving a definite link between the poet's suicide, in the known manner, and the intellectual trend that the poet wished to draw for himself since the late 1940s. With these literary tastes and the method of objective criticism, perhaps the tools of the researcher and critic can be integrated and his vision mature. But pure will alone cannot make criticism a revealing tool that illuminates the unlimited dimensions of the poetic text, as my reading of Western critical texts – without initially consulting a guide – did not lead to the unveiling of a methodology that achieves the desired goal. Writing at times seemed, in some critique, unable to grasp the boundaries at which objective criticism stands, with a fixed vision and depth, except through other readings that are more immersed in the literary process and more insightful into the nature of modern Arabic poetry and its influences, in addition to readings in foreign literary criticism with a linguistic and symbolic approach. These readings convinced me that critical study only reaches its peak usefulness and effectiveness after defining the scope of descriptive criticism, organizing a network of tools to describe the poetic text, and then tools to analyze it.
