Book title: Unpublished Letters Author: Marcel Proust Publisher: Lines and Shadows Book genre: Novel Number of pages: 122 About the book: It was exchanged by Marcel Proust with critic Camille Vitar between 1920 and 1922. Usually, the introduction of any book forms a window through which the reader looks at its content, discovers its worlds and secrets, and glimpses the ideas it carries, to quickly grasp its cognitive importance, its sincerity, and authenticity. Therefore, what prompted me initially to translate Proust's letters, in addition to their uniqueness and noteworthy style, is their introduction — relatively long — signed at the end by critic Camille Vitar. That introduction made me discover this obscure critic in Europe and the world, as well as his ability to convince a reader like me of the authenticity of his ideas, when he highlighted the importance of his correspondence with Proust, revealing — to me and to the readers — the unknown face of Marcel Proust, this great novelist, with whom he exchanged many letters over more than three years, full of details as if they documented an entire era. In those letters, Proust expressed his great admiration for critic and academic Camille Vitar, and for his encyclopedic culture, accuracy of information, and honesty. In that introduction, I also found myself — through Camille Vitar — rediscovering the author of the great epic "In Search of Lost Time," and his introduction seemed very close to someone engaged in literature like me, and an old hand at correspondence (I was from a generation for whom correspondence was a common hobby full of surprises and discoveries).
