About the book:
This book attempts to explore the dimensions of Zionist thought and post-Zionist thought as reflected in models of modern Hebrew literature; where modern Hebrew literature—especially in its early stages—reflected the social changes and literary developments that occurred in European societies where Jews lived before settling in Palestine. Its themes and styles aligned with European literary standards and concepts.
When the center of Hebrew literature shifted inside Palestine, during the Jewish migrations and after the establishment of the state, the need for development in its themes and ideas became necessary to suit the nature of the new settler reality in Palestine and to meet the needs of the dominant Zionist thought.
The Hebrew literary scene was also linked to the overall Arab-Israeli conflict wars, where the outcomes of those wars directed Israeli writers to deal with their repercussions on individuals and society. This was reflected in their texts, showing a state of skepticism towards the values established by Zionism in the minds of the Jewish masses, and themes related to deconstructive criticism of Israeli society’s directions and its exclusionary authority began to emerge.
They also sought to strip the Zionist movement of its magic, which its proponents turned into a supreme national utopia, and the writers aimed to reveal the various reasons that created the conditions for the victory of the Zionist project and then caused its setbacks.
