Product description

The story of the Siege of Lisbon by José Saramago Publisher: Al-Jamal Publications Type: Paperback, regular cover Publisher's note: The main theme of the novel revolves around a well-known historical event, which is the siege imposed by the Portuguese in 1147 AD on Muslim Lisbon, ending with its fall into their hands and the expulsion of Muslims from it. The hero of the story is named "Raymond Silva," a man in his early sixties, living alone in one of the old neighborhoods of current Lisbon, working as a proofreader at a publishing house where he reviews various books issued by this house. While reviewing a history book titled "The Story of the Siege of Lisbon," he - due to his disbelief in some historical facts which he sees as contrary to reason and logic - changed a word in one of the sentences of the original text (placing "no" instead of "yes") which transformed the meaning of the sentence from affirmation to negation, so it became: "The Crusaders did not help the Portuguese in the siege of Lisbon and its conquest."
