Girls Garcia with American accent

Book name: Girls of Garsia with American accent Author: Julia Alvarez Publisher: Books Khan for Publishing Book category: Novel Number of pages: 362 About the book: In 1960, Dr. Garsia, the doctor and political opponent from the Dominican Republic, finds himself forced to seek refuge in the United States fleeing from the authority of the dictator Trujillo in his country. Along with his wife and his four daughters, he had to start from scratch in New York. Despite the Garsia family's belonging to the aristocratic class and to the European white race in the island, where the population is predominantly African and mixed, the family finds itself on the margins of American society, just poor immigrants from Latin America who do not speak English well, and their white skin and roots belonging to the Spanish conquerors do not help them. Through the voices of the four girls, Julia Alvarez narrates the family's story and her daughters' journey from the aristocratic palaces of the Dominican Republic to the neighborhoods of poor immigrants in New York, their attempts to adapt to American culture, and then each of their paths in life and their relocations between different states.
