Book title: Days of the Rainbow Author: Antonio Scarmeta Publisher: Mamdouh Adwan for Publishing and Distribution Book category: Novels Number of pages: 232 About the book: After fifteen years of his military coup, and his control over the rule, General Pionche decides to respond to popular and international pressures, and to hold a presidential referendum that determines his fate, so the Minister of Interior calls in advertising expert and former detainee Adrian Betini; to persuade him to lead a campaign to succeed Pionche, but the leader of the opposition coalition consisting of sixteen conflicting parties suggests to Betini a crazy idea: managing the electoral campaign for the "No" campaign that is only embodied in a short TV ad. Instead of the usual focus on massacres, detainees, and the horrors of the past phase, Betini proposes that the campaign title be: Happiness is coming. Will a fifteen-minute ad succeed in overthrowing a fifteen-year dictatorial rule? In an optimistic poetic style, Scarmeta tells a true struggle story about hope and joy, in the darkest times, in a country longing for freedom.
