A brief about the book Nafh al-Tayyib min Ghusn al-Andalus al-Rabib from Dar Sader
The book "Nafh al-Tayyib min Ghusn al-Andalus al-Rabib" is one of the oldest Andalusian books and is an important historical encyclopedia in the study of the history, literature, and geography of Andalusia.
This book came in two parts: one discusses Andalusia, its cities, and its inhabitants, describing its climate, clarifying its area, defining its lands, and identifying its first settlers, as well as describing the inhabitants of Andalusia, their love for knowledge and literature, their behaviors, and their social characteristics, and the far reach they achieved in the fields of science and arts.
The other part is about the news of the minister Ibn Khallikan.
Al-Maqrizi relied in his book on sources from which only a few have reached us, such as "Al-Maghrib" by Ibn Saeed, "Mutmaḥ al-Anfus" by Ibn Khāqān, and "Al-Mutmaḥ al-Kabir."
He finished the book on Sunday, 27 Ramadan 1038 AH, and then added chapters which he completed in Dhu al-Hijjah of the year 1039 AH. He composed this book while he was in Cairo, expatriate from his homeland Tlemcen (in Algeria).
