Product description
He sheds revealing light on the diaries of the Zionist Czechoslovak leader "Egon Riedlich," who was imprisoned in the Terezín camp before being transferred to Auschwitz, and firmly brands the Zionist leadership's cooperation with the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia as a fifth column, not only against the interests of the Czechoslovak people but also against the interests of the majority of the Jewish masses. As Egon Riedlich's diaries reveal, thousands of Jews—both represented and unrepresented—were sent to Nazi extermination camps in exchange for Nazi promises to send a few dozen or hundreds of Zionist leaders and capitalists to Palestine. Egon Riedlich was a young Zionist at the time, interested in youth work, and was chosen to be responsible for the youth care department in the camp, as well as for housing and educating the children in the Terezín camp. He recorded in his memoirs from the beginning of his presence in Terezín the cases of fear and despair in that Jewish "district" ghetto, reflecting daily life, culture, illness, death, rumors, broken hopes, and feelings of guilt. The diaries are a compelling document of the Holocaust experience and the role of Zionism in it, with all its terrifying human aspects.
