Product description
The novel The Idiot is considered one of Dostoevsky's novels that gained widespread fame, and it also received an ongoing reception so that its editions are repeated in all languages of the world. Like most of Dostoevsky's works, this novel dives into the human soul and its internal struggles, where we see that intensification of feelings and desires. Dostoevsky chose its characters from models that are a bundle of inclinations and suffering. Prince Mishkin suffers from a type of epilepsy, and at the same time he is characterized by kindness of heart, willingness to sacrifice, and forgiveness with acceptance, so he was nicknamed "The Idiot." The novel begins by presenting a picture of the life of the princess, which is a picture of Russian society, before he goes to visit his relative in Petersburg, meets her daughters, and lives a whirlwind of emotions that affect his life. In this novel, as in most of his novels, Dostoevsky pours some of himself, his ideas, and his life; this is reflected in the characters of the novel, especially the prince, who lives in a conflict between his love for "Aglaya," which is his true love despite her always mocking him but she loves him, and his love for "Anastasia," who is desired by everyone, and whom he loves with a spirit of compassion, even though he describes her as sick and ill. Sami Al-Droubi's translation is not just a transfer of text into Arabic, but it is a translator's creativity who loved Dostoevsky's works. He delivered us an innovative translation that readers of Dostoevsky in Arabic have acknowledged as incomparable.
