The White Nights

Fasia, the protagonist, talks about his dreams, emotions, and tender love, but this young man who lives an isolated life and is overwhelmed by his strong feelings and romantic dreams, and dreams of moving from the role of an obscure poet at first, to a crowned writer with laurels of glory, needs to get out of this imaginary life. He needs to find a friend (or a female friend) to whom he can confide his feelings. And here he is on a night in the white month of May, while the light gives the sleeping city a magical character, meets a miserable girl. She is subjected to harassment by a drunkard, so he rushes to protect her. He feels deep compassion for her because he sees that she is sad and that a memory from the past was crying for her, so he offers her his friendship. The young man and the girl meet four consecutive nights in the same place, each telling the other his life honestly and sincerely, not hiding anything from him. The novel of the White Nights gained wide popularity, and readers loved its overflowing romance and the creative reflections in Dostoevsky’s early works, which revolve around the themes that his works will address. This character is one of the most beloved characters created by Dostoevsky, and for Dostoevsky himself, it is the closest to his heart and the most cherished in himself, and this character will appear in more than one of his works.
