Take wisdom from the mouths of the madmen, as if Al-Qasibi tried through this madhouse to emphasize that this saying is undeniably true and cannot be doubted or debated. How could it not be, when the madman is a professor... he is an encyclopedic scientific, literary, cultural, social... he is a circle of life, its axis is the Arabstanian person wandering in the whirl of his time, lost in anxious Arabstan... planted with contradictions that have inherited madness... What did Al-Qasibi, who is confined behind his mad professor, want?! He moves him... teaches him phrases... dresses him in roles to say, in his sarcastic style tinged with pain, much of what goes on behind the scenes of this Arabstan... and to reveal the pains of that Arabstanian who has become, without realizing it, that wise madman... or that mad wise man (and the wise from wisdom)... or is he the rational one in the land of the mad...?! Al-Madhouse is a novel by Saudi writer Ghazi Abdul Rahman Al-Qasibi, approximately three hundred pages long, ranked 35th on the list of the hundred best Arabic novels. The events take place in "Al-Madhouse" (a psychiatric hospital), and its protagonist is the professor who was one of those admitted to this clinic. It involves sessions of venting and talking with the treating psychiatrist, or perhaps a long and very lengthy dialogue, but it is mostly sarcastic in tone. You could say that he mentioned almost everything in the Arab and Western worlds in some way. The novel is rich with ideas and diverse information about events and prominent figures, whether political, intellectual, scientific... It is a cultural encyclopedic work filled with varied and quick information about people you might have heard of but never had the chance to know.
