A brief about the book "Qutb Al-Arifin fi Al-Aqaa'id wa Al-Tasawwuf"
"Qutb Al-Arifin" is a book on beliefs and Sufism, authored by "Abu Al-Qasim Abdul Rahman bin Yusuf Al-Laja'i". He lived during the early period of the Almohad Caliphate and died during the lifetime of the Almohad Caliph Yaqub Al-Mansur in the year 599 AH. He is attributed to Jabal Al-Ja'ya in northern Morocco. It appears to us from this book that the author was a Sufi man who was ascetic in life, considering love of the world as a deception of religion, a weakness of faith, a veil over insights, a disease of hearts, and a distance from Allah Almighty, because love of it is the head of every sin.
It also appears to us from this book that he was a Hanafi Ash'ari scholar, imbued with the principles of Ash'ari theology, influenced by the book "Al-Murshidah," which is a treatise in which Al-Mahdi ibn Tumart summarized his ideas on monotheism and built them on the Ash'ari method.
Among his most important works are "Qutb Al-Arifin," the book "Shamail" (Features) "Al-Khusus," and "Shams Al-Qulub" (Sun of the Hearts).
The book "Qutb Al-Arifin" is considered the first book by the author Al-Laja'i, as he is one of the prominent scholars and Sufi jurists of the Almohad era. He completed it on the first day of the month of Muharram in the year 557 AH. Its importance lies in representing an important aspect of the scientific development that the Moroccan culture experienced after the establishment of the Almohad state, where the Ash'ari school of thought emerged, promoted by a number of jurists until it spread widely.
The book "Qutb Al-Arifin" reflects this aspect of development.
