Ice Dragon | George R. R. Martin

Adara loved winter more than all the seasons, for when the cold arrives on the world, the ice dragon comes. Ice dragons have always been rare, even in those days, and when one is seen, children continue to point in amazement, and adults murmur and shake their heads. When ice dragons appear in the vicinity, it is a sign of a long, harsh winter. When the ice dragon flaps its wings, the cold wind blows and fierce snowstorms whirl, and the world seems to shrink and shiver. And when it opens its great mouth and breathes out, what comes out is not fire, but the ice dragon breathes cold. However, Adara is a winter girl, and her only friend, and together they must save those they love when fire dragons attack their homeland, but only if they are willing to pay the price. In this story by American writer George R. R. Martin, we see the seeds of ideas he later developed in the grand work he presented for adults. Here, the author of "A Song of Ice and Fire" offers a simple story but filled with the magic and beauty of his writing and poetic language, encouraging young and old readers to enter the world of imagination through one of the best writers in this field.
