The escort | Nina Barberova

Petrograd 1919. Snow, silence, cold, and hunger. Sonichka, a talented but shy piano player, was employed as an accompanist for the famous soprano singer Maria Nikolayevna and her loyal bourgeois husband. Unlike Sonichka, Maria embodies everything that is captivating and enchanting. Her voice brings with it "something eternal agreed upon as making one's dream of having wings a reality." She is doomed to live under the shadow of her patroness, and Maria strives to uncover the singer's many betrayals. But while she waits for her opportunity, the star's husband takes control, and events take other turns.
