The poet's wedding | Antonio Scarmeta

After the death of his father, Geronimo Frank, heir of the wealthy Austrian banking family, decided to break away from his family's traditions, move to live on a small island in the Adriatic, and reopen the large store there. Despite the tragic legend associated with the previous owner of the store, which befell the new owner, he succeeds in preparing to marry the most beautiful girl on the island, Alia Imar. During the preparations for this legendary wedding, Reno Kobita, the young revolutionary and son of the island's folk hero, notices plans for an Austrian invasion of the island, and organizes a resistance group that kills the invading soldiers. Between preparing for the wedding of the century as the islanders describe it, and the shifting feelings of Alia Imar, who loves music, and some islanders' anticipation of a retaliatory invasion by the slain soldiers, Skarmeta narrates in his enchanting and satirical style about an entire continent preparing for World War, and about a strange refuge journey to the safe paradise, Chile.
