Product description

Sandpaper is important for every oud player. Uses of sandpaper: 1- Carving the oud’s fingerboard. 2- Smoothing the oud’s fingerboard (if it is rough during playing). 3- Sanding the nose to adjust its height to the appropriate level. 4- Sanding the movable bridge to adjust its height to the appropriate level. 4- Sanding the face or back. 5- Smoothing the face or back. 6- Modifying the shape and thickness of the reed. 7- Smoothing the edges of the neck if they are sharp and harmful during playing. Explanation of sandpaper numbers and their meanings: In general, there are two types of sandpaper, one for carving and the other for smoothing. 1- The paper used for carving and sanding starts from 220 up to 1000. The higher the number, the finer the sandpaper. 2- The paper used for smoothing starts from 1000 up to 2500 and is used to smooth the wood after sanding or if the surface of the wood is rough. If there are burrs and the player wants to do maintenance, they should buy sandpaper for carving and smoothing. There is a video on the YouTube platform showing the carving method, follow this link: https://youtu.be/7Nr0GJEX6jw. If the player wants to reshape or reduce the thickness of the reed, it is recommended to use size F sandpaper for all shaping and carving uses of the reed, whether it is horn, plastic, turtle shell, or eagle feather.
