Emily, a young man, turned 26 years old, diagnosed with early Alzheimer's disease. Doctors estimated that his memory would not last more than two years, so Emily decided to embark on a final journey, fleeing from the hospital, out of compassion for his family and friends. He published an ad searching for a companion to share this last journey. To his surprise, he received a response from a girl named Joan, whose only belongings are a backpack and a large black hat, with no explanation for her presence. And so begins an amazing journey of beauty. At every turn of this journey, through meeting others and discovering oneself, joy, fear, friendship, and love gradually emerge, penetrating Emily's shell of pain. An energetic and alert writing style, flawless dialogues, honest and beloved characters, leading us to an unexpected ending, full of emotion. We do not come out of this touching and wonderful story the same as we were, written skillfully by Melissa Da Costa.
