Product description
About the book Robert Musil was an Austrian novelist, playwright, and prominent writer, who had a great impact on the European modernist movement, especially in renewing the novel form. He received his education at the famous "Military Education Institute" in Merish Weisskirchen, then entered the Mechanical Engineering College in Brunn and graduated as an engineer in 1901. When Nazi Germany annexed Austria in 1938, Musil emigrated via Italy to Switzerland, where he lived in miserable circumstances financially and morally until his death by stroke. Musil published his first novel in 1906, "The Turbulence of Student Törles," which was adapted into cinema by the famous director Schlodorf in the mid-seventies. However, Musil's unique style did not crystallize until 1924, when he published the short story collection "Three Women" Drei Frauen, in which his experimental attempts aimed at achieving clear brevity as an expression of the most delicate situations and hardships humans may face, with the ambition of achieving high linguistic beauty. This was then reflected in his greatest achievement, the novel "The Man Without Qualities" Der Mann Ohne Eigenschaften, which consumed nearly half his life to complete, yet remained unfinished.
