About the book Al-Asfuriya is a Levantine word meaning the hospital of the madmen, and the hero is the professor who narrates the history of the Arab nation in a clinical treatment session to the psychiatrist, and here Al-Qasabi wanted to say that the hospital of the madmen is the only place where the sane can speak in this world. In this novel, Al-Qasabi mixed local dialects and criticized the inferiority complex of the Westernized among Arab intellectuals and elites, the problem of authority, and other chronic Arab problems with unprecedented boldness.
